Why This Exists
Most business intelligence content about Africa is written by people looking at the continent from somewhere else. From a research desk. From a development organisation. From a fund manager's quarterly report. It describes African markets accurately in statistics and inaccurately in everything that actually matters.
The Continental Intelligence Brief was built to close that gap. It covers the full range of what serious African business leaders need to stay sharp: business strategy, planning and execution, executive leadership, brand management, AfCFTA intelligence, and the market moves that define where African commerce is heading.
Five sections. Every issue. Written and curated personally by Olutope Olatilewa E. (Lady Topsie) — someone who has been operating inside African markets for over twenty years, not observing them from the outside.
“The Brief is 45 minutes a month. It is the most useful 45 minutes of strategic reading I invest in. Everything is relevant. Nothing is filler.”
— [Ben Kofi - CEO, Ghana]
Every Issue
The Brief follows the same five-section structure every month — predictable enough that you know what to expect, varied enough that the content is never the same twice.
Section 1
The main analytical piece of each issue. Rotates across all five BWB expertise areas: business strategy, business planning and execution, executive leadership and coaching, brand management and market positioning, and AfCFTA and continental trade. Each month goes deep on one area — giving you the kind of analysis you can act on, not just file away.
Rotation: Business Strategy → Business Planning → Executive Leadership → Brand Management → AfCFTA Intelligence → repeat
Section 2
A direct, personal piece written by Olutope Olatilewa E. (Lady Topsie) in her own voice. Not analysis — perspective. The kind of piece that makes you put the Brief down for a moment and think. It covers whatever has been on her mind that month: a leadership pattern she keeps seeing in client work, a market observation that surprised her, something the mainstream conversation is getting wrong about Africa. Nobody else can write this section.
Section 3 · Three snapshots
Three standing intelligence updates every issue, regardless of the Section 1 lead topic:
Section 4
Brand positioning, personal executive brand strategy, the commercial value of visibility, how African businesses build premium perception, and how African executives command the rooms they deserve. No other African business intelligence publication covers brand management as a standing section. This is territory Lady Topsie owns and it lives here every month.
Section 5 · 5–8 curated items
Five to eight of the most useful articles, reports, and resources published that month — drawn from across all five pillar areas — each with Lady Topsie’s one-sentence editorial note on why it is worth your time. Saves you three to four hours of searching. The curation itself signals where the serious African business conversation is moving.
Sample Content
Every issue covers a different combination of the five pillars. Here are representative topic examples from each area.
Business Strategy
The diagnostic questions that separate a positioning problem from a model problem — and the strategic moves that fit each situation.
Strategy Desk Lead · Section 1
Business Planning
The gap between planning and execution is not a planning problem. It is a discipline problem. What the highest-performing African businesses do every quarter.
Strategy Desk Lead · Section 1
Executive Leadership
The psychology of strategic avoidance in African business leaders — what drives it and the specific moves that break it.
Lady Topsie Speaks · Section 2
Brand Management
The brand perception gap that keeps African firms below their market value and the repositioning moves that close it.
Brand and Visibility Corner · Section 4
AfCFTA Intelligence
Which sectors are liberalising first, what compliance looks like in practice, and the commercial actions to take now.
AfCFTA Watch · Section 3
Executive Leadership
The African CEO’s practical guide to constructing a board that adds real strategic value rather than ceremonial governance.
Leadership Pulse · Section 3
The Readership
One intended reader: a serious African business leader, executive, or professional who needs strategic intelligence across multiple business disciplines and does not have time to source it themselves.
Running businesses across African markets and needing intelligence that spans strategy, operations, brand, leadership, and trade — not just one dimension.
Consultants, advisors, and strategy leads who work with African businesses and need to stay current across the full breadth of African business practice.
Professionals who coach and develop African executives and need the current leadership intelligence and business context that keeps their practice sharp.
Diaspora professionals building or investing across African markets who need the full-spectrum business intelligence that living outside the market makes hard to maintain.
Alumni of the Strategic Planning Masterclass Series staying connected to the intelligence and thinking that made the programme relevant. Graduate discount applies.
HR, strategy, and L&D teams at organisations with African exposure who want to keep their leadership teams current. Institutional subscription covers up to ten readers.

Writer & Curator — Continental Intelligence Brief
Every issue of the Continental Intelligence Brief is written and curated personally by Olutope Olatilewa E. (Lady Topsie). Not delegated. Not aggregated by an algorithm. Written by someone who has operated across African markets for over twenty years, built three pan-African organisations, trained professionals in all 54 African countries, and developed the strategy frameworks that African business leaders use to grow their businesses across borders.
Questions
It covers everything. Every issue has five sections: a deep analysis piece rotating across business strategy, planning, executive leadership, brand management, and AfCFTA in turn; a personal leadership piece by Lady Topsie; three standing intelligence snapshots; a brand and visibility section; and a curated reading list. AfCFTA is one pillar of five — not the whole publication.
Most subscribers report 45 to 60 minutes for a thorough read. It is designed to be read once, carefully — not skimmed. A focused Saturday morning, a long flight, or a deliberate lunch hour will give you the full value.
Monthly subscribers access all issues from their subscription start date. Annual and Institutional subscribers receive full archive access from the very first issue, including all back issues published before they subscribed.
Completely. A significant portion of subscribers are diaspora professionals, international advisors, and investors with African exposure. The Brief provides the full-spectrum intelligence that living or working outside the market makes hard to maintain on your own.
The alumni rate is applied on programme completion. If you have graduated and have not received your subscriber code, contact alumni@businesswithoutboundaries.org with your completion details and we will issue it within 24 hours.
You retain access until the end of the billing period already paid for. No charges after cancellation. No penalty for rejoining.
