We share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist in operating our platforms, under strict data processing agreements:

Instructor access is limited to students enrolled in their specific courses.

6.3 Affiliates

If you register as a BWB Learn affiliate, your name, email, earnings, and payout information will be accessible to BWB platform administrators for commission tracking and payout processing.

6.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of BWB, our users, or the public.

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of BWB or its assets, your personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and ensure your data remains protected under equivalent terms.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, subject to the following specific retention periods:

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

8.1 What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We use cookies and similar technologies to make our platforms function correctly, remember your preferences, and understand how you use our services.

8.2 Cookies We Use

  • Session cookies — essential for keeping you logged into BWB Learn while you navigate between pages. These are deleted when you close your browser
  • Preference cookies — remembering your currency preference (NGN/USD), language settings, and display preferences
  • Analytics cookies — on businesswithoutboundaries.org, Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymised data about site usage. These are not used on BWB Learn
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — a 30-day cookie is set when a visitor arrives via an affiliate link, to attribute any resulting purchase to the correct affiliate

8.3 Managing Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies will prevent BWB Learn from functioning correctly — you will not be able to stay logged in or complete purchases. Non-essential cookies can be disabled without affecting core functionality.

9. Data Security

We take the security of your personal data seriously and have implemented the following technical and organisational measures:

  • SSL/TLS encryption on all our platforms — all data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted
  • Password hashing — all passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing. We cannot read or recover your password
  • Two-factor authentication (2FA) — enabled on our server administration (cPanel) to prevent unauthorised access
  • ModSecurity — web application firewall protection on businesswithoutboundaries.org
  • Wordfence Security — active firewall and malware scanning on businesswithoutboundaries.org
  • DMARC, DKIM, and SPF email authentication — protecting our domain from email spoofing and phishing
  • Regular automated database backups — daily MySQL backups with offsite storage to Google Drive
  • Access controls — BWB Learn admin access is restricted to authorised personnel only, with role-based permissions
  • Security hardening — directory browsing disabled, direct access to config files blocked, backup files protected from public access

Despite these measures, no system is completely secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location and applicable data protection law, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

10.3 Right to Erasure (“Right to Be Forgotten”)

You have the right to request that we delete your personal data. Please note that we may need to retain certain data to comply with legal obligations (such as payment records) or to maintain the integrity of certificate verification records. We will inform you of any data we are unable to delete and the reason why.

10.4 Right to Restrict Processing

You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances, such as while we investigate a complaint about accuracy.

11. Children’s Privacy

BWB Learn and all BWB services are intended for adults aged 18 and over. The African ChangeMakers Initiative (ACi) Fellowship programmes, while supporting young people, require parental or guardian consent for participants under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with their data without parental consent, please contact us immediately at info@businesswithoutboundaries.org and we will delete the data promptly.

12. International Data Transfers

BWB is based in Nigeria and operates globally. Your personal data may be processed in Nigeria and in countries where our service providers operate, including the United States (Brevo, Google) and Ireland (Paystack headquarters). Where data is transferred outside your country of residence, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required under GDPR, and compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 cross-border transfer provisions.

13. Third-Party Links and Services

Our platforms contain links to external websites and services, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X), and external resources referenced in course materials. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal data.

14. Certificate Verification and Public Records

BWB Learn issues verifiable certificates of completion for all completed courses and programs. Each certificate carries a unique certificate number and a QR code linking to our public verification page at https://learn.businesswithoutboundaries.org/verify.php. The verification page displays the certificate holder’s name, course title, completion date, and certificate number to allow employers and institutions to confirm authenticity. This information is intentionally public to serve the verification purpose. If you wish to dispute or remove your certificate from public verification, contact us at info@businesswithoutboundaries.org.

  • Sending an email notification to your registered BWB Learn email address for significant changes
